On March 28th, 2026, Empower Field at Mile High will serve as the host for the Denver Summit Football Club’s opening match during the 2026 National Women’s Soccer League season. The National Women’s Soccer League is the highest league of women’s professional soccer in America. It is currently comprised of sixteen teams, with teams in San Diego, Louisville, Seattle, and many other cities. The Denver Summit is the newest team in the National Women’s Soccer League and will make its debut this coming March.
The event, dubbed “The Kickoff,” will see the Denver Summit face off against a soon-to-be-announced opponent. Since the creation of the team, anticipation has been building among Denver’s sports community. The Denver Summit football club has announced that “Over 15,000 people have invested in season ticket deposits.” These sales numbers are extraordinary and showcase the overwhelming demand for female sports teams in Colorado. The city isn’t home to many female sports teams except for the Denver Onyx Rugby Team, as well as the Denver Bandits Football Team (which will also begin in 2026). There are several sports teams through Denver University and Metro State University. With such a lack of female representation in the sports field, the excitement for the Denver Summit speaks volumes to the insistence for women’s sports teams in Colorado.
Currently, tickets are on sale for the home opener. Fans can either purchase tickets or a Club 5280 membership and gain access to the best seats for the opener. Club 5280 is the team’s official membership and is the best way to support the Denver Summit. The membership will place individuals on a waitlist for season tickets (which are currently sold out). Denver Summit Football Club also stated that in addition to being placed on the waitlist; other membership benefits are “early-access tickets to single-games, a complimentary founding member scarf, early access to merchandise, 10% off merchandise, and perks at member events.” If fans are looking to support Denver Summit and watch the team play, the Club 5280 membership is the best way to do so. The membership only costs $52.80.
Denver Summit Football Club and Mayor Mike Johnston announced that after the opening game, the Denver Summit will play at a “temporary stadium before transitioning to a new stadium for the 2028 season.” “The stadium will seat 14,500 people and will occupy Santa Fe Yards.” The stadium will be the first “purpose-built sports and entertainment district built for professional women’s sports in Colorado.” With this monumental investment in the Denver Summit, a belief and a passion for women’s sports is beginning to develop. This doesn’t only signify an evolution in women’s sports in Colorado, but globally as well. Women’s sports have always taken a backseat to male sports teams. Recently, however, the rising prominence of the WNBA in the mainstream has begun to spark a shift. Companies are beginning to see that women’s sports are viable and something fans are looking for. Last year, the Professional Women’s Hockey League played a game in Denver as part of its Takeover series, and next year, it will play two more games in Denver. In 2026, the Women’s Pro Baseball League will begin. The time is now for the WNBA, PWHL, and WPBL to create teams in Colorado. The audience is ready and waiting. A renaissance in women’s sports in Colorado has slowly begun; time will tell if it can continue to blossom.
