Ten years after his last release, Hozier made his comeback on March 22nd this year with an EP titled Unheard, containing four new songs. One of the songs off the album, titled “Too Sweet,” went viral on social media a couple of weeks before the release date, making this album highly rated by both new and old Hozier fans.
Unheard is most known so far because it contains Hozier’s fastest growing song of his entire career, “Too Sweet.” After only a couple of weeks on Spotify, this song currently has over 135 million streams, and is also Hozier’s fifth most streamed song of all time. Comparatively, Hozier’s 2014 self-titled album contains the number one most streamed Hozier song of all time titled “Take Me to Church,” with over two billion streams on Spotify. While “Too Sweet” already has over 135 million streams, the other four most streamed songs did not become as popular as fast.
Along with “Too Sweet,” this EP also contains the tracks “Wildflower and Barley,” “Empire Now,” and “Fare Well.” The guitar riffs in these songs reflect Hozier’s folk style and give the EP a countryside vibe. The first two tracks “Too Sweet” and “Wildflower and Barley” are both about Hozier’s potential love interests. These are very upbeat songs, which are then followed by two much less upbeat songs, “Empire Now” and “Fare Well.” These tracks are just as beautiful but are about climate change and the acceptance of the earth’s decay. Every song is flawless in the combination of the lyrics and instrumentals, just as Hozier’s previous albums. Overall, Unheard was worth the wait of ten years. This EP is a great reflection of Hozier’s talent and how he balances his new and older musical styles.
